The fashion industry is an ever-growing staple to society and a person’s entire persona could be portrayed just by their attire alone.
Sometimes, Top Fashion Brands tend to sell items that are… well… not really conventional. And why is that? Well, let’s talk about it.
Ok so here’s a theory –
High class brands such as LV, Versace, etc., tend to make styles/designs that aren’t very appealing to the majority, but rather, to the top tiers of society or to those who can afford high-class clothing and accessories, and that isn’t a coincidence. Bulk selling brands such as H&M, Zara, etc., sell merchandise to the larger audience as it is a Fast Fashion brand (a brand that quickly adapts to upcoming styles and puts them on the shelves as quickly as possible), so selling something that isn’t very appealing isn’t going to give these companies a bunch of profit or any publicity as the styles only fit a certain demographic.
Which brings to the reason why high fashion brands sell items that fit a certain miniscule demographic, it’s because they want to only cater to that population, so fast fashion companies can’t just “redesign” an item and sell it to the larger group. This is because they know that people won’t buy them as, again, they only appeal to a certain set of people. The main aim here is to create specific unique designs that cannot be easily recreated and resold at a lower price range.
Okay, let’s take the Yeezy Foam Runners for example, you know, that open air shoe with enough holes for it to be called the Abu Dhabi Louvre roof? Yeah, that “shoe”. Not a lot of fast fashion companies copy that style even though it is made by Kanye West because these companies know that people won’t really “cop” these shoes knowing that only a handful of people will buy the real thing. Plus, the press isn’t very kind about the shoe design either so that probably gave fast fashion companies a heads up.
Although this isn’t too surprising as we’re sure most of the people reading this have once in a while disliked an item from their favourite’s high fashion brand and have always wondered why such a decision was made. Well, now you know.
