Unless you have been lost in the Himalayas, you must have come across the swarm of TikTok videos trying to jump on this new bandwagon called the Tim Burton trend. You know, those videos with a blue line slowly edging down from top to bottom as people try to sulk their cheeks with their fingers to look like an animated character.

So how did this simple time warp scan become a viral internet sensation overnight?

Who is Tim Burton even and what does he have to do with this trend?

To give you all an introduction, Tim Burton is a famous American animator who is known for his distinct style. The experts call it “

gothic suburbia” which is a ghostly art style where the characters are marked by their sunken cheeks, huge binocular eyes, and petite figure.  So what do the people of the internet do with this information? Duh, make a viral trend on it!

Now it is not known which genius decided to take the first dive into this challenge. Let’s just assume that some of our good karma from 2019 decided to pay us a visit and set aflame this Halloween challenge to cure our COVID boredom.

What started as 1 or 2 attempts soon blew up exponentially to the point that every social media handle was filled to the brim with these videos.

The steps to achieving this look are very simple:

1. When the blue scanner reaches your eyes, pull the skin under your eyes with your index finger.
2. As the line moves down, use your thumb to push your cheeks inside

The challenge seems pretty easy when explained with words but even the slightest move in the wrong direction can result in a meme for your Instagram groups.

But once mastered you can proudly join the myriad of TikTokers who have already become ready for October 31.

You may encounter many different versions of this challenge on your feed.

Some make it look like they’re using the scanner but instead, it’s just a blue piece of thread that makes you question your whole belief system.

Others maneuver in such a way it looks like they’re smoking 

Because the time warp scan freezes time when the blue line stops, many have also used it to swap parts of their faces with their friends making it as hilarious as it can get.
