Scientfic Bedouin
Shiza Ali | | /dxb-med

A Bedouin walking across the sweltering sands of Arabia with his camel trailing behind him, he wipes off the beads of sweat as the scorching sun rays fell on his charismatically radiant face. The sand granules fluttered around him. The sand shifted under his foot as he raised it heading towards his destination. The gush of sirocco wiped his trails off the sand behind him.

A simple yet charismatic Bedouin has been scorned by his people for ages. He has been mocked for the duties he had been bestowed by Allah. Yet he was firm and steadfast. He let Allah reply to every mocking person in His book artistically and poetically. Despite being spiritual guidance for all, Quran has proven itself in being a scientific guide to the world.

The Muslims have believed in Allah’s words without any doubt for a year. They still do. And they always will. However, as the world progressed the words which once were thought to be metaphoric, have been proven to be literally correct.

Allah says in Surah Hujurat, Ayah 15:

The true believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger—never doubting—and strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah. They are the ones true in faith.

QURAN AND BIOLOGY:

WATER:

Water is the most crucial molecule for all living organisms. Nearly 70% of the human body mass is water. It plays an important role in chemical reactions like the polymerization of monomers into macromolecules that are essential for proper body functioning. The polarity and Hydrogen bond formation makes it a universal solvent making it a mean of transporting nutrients in our body. The amphoteric nature of water makes it act as a buffer in our body to prevent acidosis and alkalosis.

All this has been summed by Allah (SWT) in just one sentence in Surah Al Anbiya, Ayah 30:

Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were once one mass then We split them apart? And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?

EVOLUTION:

Contemporary to what Google states regarding the first theories of evolution that in the early 19th century Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (1744–1829) proposed his theory of the transmutation of species, the first fully formed theory of evolution and the theory of published in 1858 Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace the first theory of evolution was explained by Muslims as John William Draper, author of The History of the Conflict Between Science and Religion (1874) himself wrote:

“Theological authorities were therefore constrained to look with disfavor… on the Mohammedan theory of the evolution of man from lower forms, or his gradual development to his present condition in the long lapse of time.”

Unlike Darwin’s theory of evolution guided by chance Allah explains the biological evolution in Surah Nuh, Ayah 17:

Allah alone caused you to grow from the earth like a plant.

This proves that Darwin has neither the first nor the last say in evolution.

EMBRYOLOGY:

According to the Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. Baer, who helped popularize Christian Heinrich Pander’s 1817 discovery of primary germ layers, laid the foundations of modern comparative embryology in his landmark two-volume work Über Entwickelungsgeschichte der Thiere (1828–37; “On the Development of Animals”).

Allah explains the fetus development in Surah Mu’minun, Ayah 12-16:

  1. And indeed, We created humankind from an extract of clay,

  2. then placed each human as a sperm-drop in a secure place,

then We developed the drop into a clinging clot of blood, then developed the clot into a lump of flesh, then developed the lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought it into being as a new creation. So Blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators.

After that you will surely die,

then on the Day of Judgment you will be resurrected.

These AYAHS not only explain how a zygote develops into an embryo passing through the stages of blastomere, morula, and blastocyst until it is implanted into the uterine cavity and how organogenesis takes place. These verses also explain that it is the SPERM that determines the gender of a child.

The females have two X chromosomes whereas males have one X and a Y chromosome. During oogenesis, all the gametes formed are X containing haploid cells. On the other hand, 50% of the sperms produced by spermatogenesis have an X chromosome and the other half has a Y chromosome. Thus during fertilization, there are equal chances for the X and Y containing sperm to fertilize the oocyte.

This breaks the taboo of cursing a woman for giving birth to a child contrary to the expectations of the family.

ONE HEART IN MEN:

In the era before Islam Arabs believed that a smarter man had two hearts in his chest. To break this misconception of people Allah revealed Surah Ahzab, Ayah 4:

Allah has not made for any man two hearts in his chest cavity, nor did he make your wives whom you subjected to Zihār, your mothers, nor did he make your adopted sons your (real) sons. That is (merely) a word uttered by your mouths. And Allah says the truth and He shows the (right) way.

A small detail can make a big difference. Allah used Rjul (man) instead of insaan (human) or nas (people). The investigation of this small detail revealed that the woman at some stage of her life will be having two hearts when she is pregnant. While men will always have one heart throughout their entire life.

DUALITY IN CREATION:

A British physicist Paul Dirac proposed that all the matter in this universe is made in pairs. His theory won him the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1933. This is theory is called parity which asserts that all particles have their opposites. Like the proton, electron and neutron combine to form an atom, anti-proton, anti-neutron, and anti-electron (also called a positron) make an anti atom. Thus the theory of particle and anti-particle became popular.

Allah says in Surah Ya-Sin Ayah 36:

Pure (from every fault) is the One who has created all the pairs of whatever the earth grows and of the humans themselves and of that which they do not know.

HONEYBEES:

Honeybees work according to the principles of human politics, where one, the queen bee rules by instructing the secretions of pheromones that generate developing and behavioral changes in other bees. All 3000 eggs a day are laid by her, guarded by the infertile female worker bees. The drones’ main function is the fertilization of the unfertile eggs laid by the queen bee. The fertile one becomes either a queen or workers, whereas, the haploid unfertilized eggs form drones. All of the bees rely on each other.

Inside the stomach of a bee, there are partitions or crops i.e bees have multiple stomachs. While collecting nectar the bee stores it in a different crop called the “Honey Stomach” and returns to its hive. At the back of the stomach, there is a valve that prevents the passing of nectar into the rear portion of the digestive system except for a small amount that is needed for her life.

Allah explains in Surah An-Nahl, Ayah 68-69:

Your Lord revealed to the honeybee: “Make homes in the mountains, in the trees and in the structures they raise. Then, eat from all the fruits, and go along the pathways of your Lord made easy for you.” From their bellies comes out a drink of various colors in which there is cure for people. Surely, in that there is a sign for a people who ponder.

Home is a very intricate word that is defined by Business Insider India as:

“It is a place of dwelling for the family. A home is filled with affection, bonding and love.”

This explains how the honey bees; the worker bees, the queen, and the drones live together in a hexagonal well defined secure beehive.

HONEY AS A HEALING AGENT:

According to Healthline, honey has the following characteristics:

A good source of anti-oxidant

Anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties

Heals wounds

Helps in Gastrointestinal problems

Soothe sore throat

This all has been explained in the Quran more than 1400 years ago in Surah An-Nahl, Ayah 69:

Then, eat from all the fruits, and go along the pathways of your Lord made easy for you.” From their bellies comes out a drink of various colors in which there is cure for people. Surely, in that there is a sign for a people who ponder.

In the end, I would only say:

So where are you going?

– Surah At-Takwir, Ayah 26
