HYPOTHESIS, USA UNDER BIDEN The Good, The Bad, The Unknown.

Picture this: November 2021, a year subsequent to Joe Biden’s slim win of the elections in 2020 against Donald Trump. How will a hypothetical USA look under Biden?

Environmental Factors:- Biden had not been the one to shy away from ambitious plans. In previous rallies he had made clear that he believes climate change is real by vouching for his 2 trillion dollar “New Green Deal” to address the crisis “on an epic scale”. By November 2021, the USA would have upped their game with regards to climate change. The Energy Secretary Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, with the backing of the President, would have perpetually prolonged the airlines’ limitations of flights. Taxes on gasoline would have sprouted to match the European levels in order to encourage the use of sustainable transportation. Alternatively, millions would be left with a shortage of electricity in the heat waves of summer 2021 due to the ongoing closures of coal and nuclear electric plants.

Social factors:- While Biden opposed the prospect of defunding the police, he did not ignore the violence amidst the George Floyd riots. This would pave the way for leftists in Congress to avert around 30% of resources from law enforcement nationally, to social services authorised under the Senate. When it comes to immigration however, it seems the circumstances wouldn’t have changed as much. Biden aims to spotlight only the deduction of threats to welfare, not to disintegrate immigrant families. However, his plans are restricted to only beneficiary precautions. As a result, in 2021, the lack of Republican support and lack of action by Democrats would not affect the brutal immigration policies.

Foreign affairs and the economy:- Biden’s economic plan is described as “a foreign policy for the middle class”. While Biden’s initiative for a global summit is a bold move, this, in 2021 is propagated by the Trump Administration as a socialist and anti-business policy. By this point, the economy would have not recovered from the setback caused by the pandemic. The turnaround of Trump’s tax cuts, however, would have resulted in grave damage to financial investment and growth. This, in turn, would decrease the bridge between the rich and the poor which would be an unexpected result yet welcomed consequence.

The hypothesis presented above is merely a prediction of how events in 2021 may unfold. Joe Biden in his keynote article, expressing his vision for the USA emphasises that “The world does not organize itself.”  But to what extent will America follow?
